Raise, analyze and solve problems
Designers are actually physical doctors and psychiatrists. The client only wants to find designers when there is a problem. But these problems are often not clearly discovered by them. They just feel that there is something wrong or some phenomena and obstacles, but they do not show them in the way of problems. Therefore, designers are relied on to help, sort out and solve. The first step of design task is to raise problems, analyze problem solutions and solve problems. All other behaviors and forms are to express the existence of these three basic contents. As long as we grasp these three links, we can easily enter and complete design behaviors, And must be able to make a satisfactory product to come.
First, we start with the question, and ask questions not to Party A: what requirements and how much he wants to spend, not what he wants to be, but to ask ourselves: why should Party A do design? Who is the product or project of this design for? Under what circumstances? These are first-level issues. When the first level question is answered, then ask further on the basis of this: what is the user's needs? Functional demand, psychological demand, commercial demand and public welfare demand are secondary problems. Finally, the problem of orientation can be called three-level problem, namely, behavior problem, gender problem, age problem, scale problem and special problem in functional demand, cultural problem, religious problem, taboo problem, custom problem and family problem in psychological demand. The competition, market, cost, production and logistics in commercial demand. Social problems, environmental protection issues, education issues and responsibility care issues in public welfare needs. The above-mentioned questions are not put forward in the form of questions and fill in some data, but rather they should be regarded as topics or even topics to study investigation, classification and grading. In addition, the question should also be put forward in three types: one is the historical problem, the precedent or experience of similar phenomena. Second, the existing problems, the existing surface and hidden problems. Third, the problem of foresight refers to the problems that may occur in a few or decades. In the historical issues, both parties are more likely to form identity, because it is the experience that has been formed and has been transformed into a guidance method for our reference. The existing problems are more complex. One is the analysis of potential problems, and the scientific basis. Secondly, the direction and substance of the problems are concerned. The differences between Party A and Party A may be concerned about the small things that you have become full of. The second step is to analyze the problem. First, there should be a small team to avoid the deviation and one-sided analysis results caused by individualism. Usually, an old expert with rich life experience and professional experience should be invited, and it is enough to invite a young new generation of old friends and yourself. The basic materials of the analysis are comprehensive and detailed, so the results will be accurate and true. The process of analyzing the problem will naturally show the direction of solving the problem and the main node creativity. However, it is only a semi-finished product, and it is likely to be eliminated in the next step of the further development, but its value cannot be ignored, This kind of instantaneous idea produced under the intuitive feeling is often the most alive. It is an absolute good seed. Although it has not germinated in the process, it must not be discarded until the last minute. The analysis of the problem involves his causes, background, process, characteristics, difficulties and breach, finds others' experience in universality, and puts forward bold analysis in particularity, even does not conform to the actual imagination. This is an open link. Any brainstorming without margin can be reasonably unfolded here. At this time, we should not refuse all factors All impossibility, all dead ends, of course, all corners, all misreading and all arguments.
The third step is to solve the problem. When the analysis results appear, creativity naturally appears, but creativity alone can not solve the problem, but it is necessary to put the fruit into the system program for deep processing until it becomes the product that the customer you are satisfied with really needs. One and several ideas should be established in several rounds of screening, then the idea should be reasonably penetrated into various functions, and then corresponding forms and shapes and spatial structures should be developed according to the needs of customers, the functions of space or products and the user's feelings and comfort. This link should be comprehensively considered, including visual, tactile, and sensory factors, And we should find the best balance between the whole and personality, so that there is no functional obstacle in any hardware part. The next step is to implement it to the presentation, that is, the drawings.
The most annoying procedure of design is to talk about soldiers on paper. If we don't measure the environment on paper and mind, we should not experiment on the real battlefield first. Because when the actual landing is finished product, we will find the problem and remedy the problem, which will cause great cost waste, even affect the market recognition, and make good business projects die in the early stage without rigorous behavior. When the drawings and all aspects of the review and confirmation can be implemented, at this time designers must not think the problem solved, even if the design is completed, it is absolutely not! This is just a starting point for solving problems and putting them into full implementation. Other roads are still long and even difficult. Because the most important step of a truly perfect design is this step. Don't think that engineers will be able to finish your work by looking at the drawing paper very well. Absolutely not! Designers should continue to care about every detail during the implementation, such as cost, materials, process, drawing data and field errors, implementation team combination, procedures, work cycle, region A series of occasional phenomena and unforeseen problems such as weather and environment caused by landing difficulties should be temporarily put forward by designers with professional attitude and experience to adjust and modify drawings. The scheme is further improved in the actual process, and the actual finished products are finally put into application. Therefore, a complete design is not a drawing, but a good preliminary investigation process plus the passion collision of the team, coupled with the strict and persistence of the draftsman, repeated testing by the engineer, the sweat and responsibility of the specific workers, and the financial support of Party A. every step needs careful arrangement and coordination of the designer, In addition, the process of design implementation is a process of constantly anticipating problems and solving problems constantly. The charm of design
I am a person who loves walking. Design is like a journey for me. Unexpected people on the road and intriguing stories all enrich me, just like a variety of elements in my design, which are novel and mysterious, and will make you keep exploring excitedly. It makes me understand that there is another world, such as the VI design of a children's education institution. I've always been in the state of a child, and I seem to have lived my childhood to the full again. Continuous exploration and innovation, re innovation. The charm of design is like listening to a music that has been waiting for a long time. I love design so much that every day I live my life with design thinking and share it.
Hidden thinking in design
Since I just stepped into this industry, I have been thinking about what design is? How can we have our own design thinking? The pursuit of this matter has always been a puzzle. Before, I always design for one thing, and then one thing is a long-term process. In this process, I have been thinking about solutions, especially tired.
Now think about it, it's totally a boring thing to do, not a design. How can you be creative when you are trapped in a noun, a requirement of Party A and a limitation of thinking. Therefore, we need a kind of thinking to help us get rid of our limitations. Just like traveling, why we have to go out for a walk is to see the world in a different way. It's the same with design. We need to look at things in a different way. For example, we design a water cup. If you only regard it as a vessel for holding water, it will always be a water cup without any design value. But you get rid of the essential feature that it needs to hold water. It also has the comfort of the hand, the amount of water, whether it is hot or not, and the suitable age group. In this way, it should not be a perfect design. If you further change your thinking, it's a work of art. You'll consider aesthetics, production technology, value of your own existence, and so on. Then it is a higher level than the water cup which can only hold water. I can boldly guess that the water cup continuously designed under this kind of thinking will be completely different from the current people's understanding of the water cup in the future. This kind of thinking is very important. Don't be trapped by a noun or an inherent understanding. There will be no advanced design.
When you get on the subway, you choose where you stand; When you enter the restaurant, you find the table where you are going to eat; Which pocket do you put your cell phone in. These are all designed by you. This kind of thinking is hidden in your life. Everyone has it, but some people haven't found it yet. When one day you have a big brain hole, those things that are ignored and forgotten by you will come into your mind, and you will understand why you always lost to a partner next door when playing games as a child. Don't be surprised, it's our hidden thinking.
Innovation of design
As we all know, the life source of design is innovation. Many people are suffering from the lack of creativity and can't get refreshing solutions. How to get innovative? Many people put forward the combination method, analogy method and association method. I think the most important thing is to have critical thinking. The origin of critical thinking can be traced back to the ancient Greek thinker Socrates 2500 years ago. Socrates believes that all knowledge comes from problems. The more progress you make, the more problems you have, the more progress you make. Most things are on the way of development. We should observe them in time and space. The source, change, innovation and status quo of history are all factors we need to consider. Few status quo can say right or wrong, so we should observe it with critical thinking. It is not perfect. There is a big difference between what we see and the essence of things. We should see the essence of things through the false surface. When you know the truth, you will find a solution. At this point, you talk about new things, which is the source of innovation.
Personal pursuit of design
Many people will say: the designer's personal pursuit lies in the comprehensive quality, keen insight, rich expression and so on. This is just a designer in the circle, not a human designer.
Every design we do is with personal emotion. Just like a movie, its box office may be well publicized rather than really excellent, and the real epic level are all sincere works with painstaking efforts and no market. The design that conforms to the business will be eliminated by the business naturally. Design is an art frontier industry, bearing the heavy responsibility of human civilization. We must lead the market and open up a new good pattern. Therefore, we need to do moving design, design is emotional. I bought a clay figurine made by an old woman on the journey. I watched it created by a pair of calloused hands. I felt the tenacity of life. It was not a doll. At the same time, isn't a design that takes into account all the problems that will arise in the next decade moving? Isn't it praiseworthy of a design that brings comfort and embraces public welfare? Design needs to do this, and design should.
As the title says, design is a journey of life. That countless lives, there is a design journey.

Sishu: Hello, young song. In a speech, you mentioned your experience. Originally, you were also a designer. Later, you felt that there were many problems in business and there was no way to be uncompromising, so you simply made a thorough compromise and left the design field. Then I live an independent life in a yard and create an artistic lifestyle of your own. So I have a question that I am particularly interested in. In the face of the contradiction between the object we serve and our own position, how do you switch between design and art.
Mr. Song: I did design for more than ten years. I talked about it in my last speech. I still think "compromise" is the greatest word in the world.
I always think that being a person should be pure. So you will compromise with many things. From the perspective of design, sometimes we will compromise with customers and the market. Because you can't express yourself, design has requirements. But if you only satisfy yourself, such as doing art, you don't need to compromise, because sometimes your object is just yourself. The simpler it is, the less goals you have, the more pure you can be. So from this point of view, I like the word "compromise".
Sishu: let's talk about your apple again. Your apple is actually very interesting. My students sent me wechat from the United States. In the first class, the teacher left him an assignment, that is, let them make a decoration with apple as the topic. There are three meanings in apple. The first one is the apple of Adam and Eve in the Bible; The second is Newton's apple; The third thing that our younger generation can't avoid is jobs' apple.
Mr. Song: I did make apple because of Steve jobs. After I got to know him, he liberated people from the previous two apples. Why do people who buy his products feel fashionable? He felt that he had personality, at least in the beginning, so he fully respected the individual, that is, the liberation of the individual, that is, from the establishment of the earth to the individual. Steve's apple mobile phone, you input the wrong password, it shakes a few times, in fact, it did not tell you that you input the wrong password, but you must feel that my password is wrong, why can you know that your password is wrong? It's just shaking a few times, which is a bit like the Chinese smile, very implicit. Although jobs didn't interpret it in this way, we made a kind of thinking.
Sishu: let's talk about your apple again. In the fourth stage, old song's apple.
Lao song: just now, I said to smile, because the unique Chinese culture is implicit, implicit but not explicit. So the last time I saw the sculpture of Sui Jianguo, a Chinese sculptor, he was also like this, that is, artists have to hide their ideas in order to leave a good space for the audience, which is what the audience needs. So my apple is triggered by jobs. We often say that art comes from life and is higher than life. I don't know if there is such a saying in the west, so I don't believe it. In fact, my understanding is that sometimes it doesn't come from life. Why does it come from life? For example, how do we create many great works? Is it because society has experience to express it? I don't think so. Sometimes it may be his inspiration or he has more wisdom. He sees an experience that ordinary people can't see, and then he expresses it. I'm not sure if this is true, or the problem brought about by our education is that art must come from life. I didn't think a lot at the beginning, I just thought I just wanted to do something. I put down my experience of more than ten years before, no longer do design, to do my apple, at that time did not think so much. In fact, what I think of is just a little bit. I want a little bit of freedom. To be more precise, freedom is very rare.
Sishu: you just said that we were taught a lot of ideas, saying that art comes from life and is higher than life. Americans directly say that art itself is life and life itself is art. I think no matter how it is divided theoretically, you live in your yard. What is the relationship between art and life that you feel most about?
Mr. Song: it's a lot of accidents. Up to now, I haven't made a good plan. Looking back, it's just that I've been pushed to the present state by accident. In fact, I think it's very good. There are a lot of accidents. It always doesn't go according to my own idea. I want to go like this, but maybe this clue pushes you to that. I don't care about it. You push it and I push it. I just come up. It's really like this. So I think I have some feelings about the word "accidental".
Maybe I don't think I have a good plan, just like making this fence. Many people say the word "put down" to empty themselves. It's not that you can't put it down, it's because you have nothing to put down. You are not a big and powerful person. Why do you tell me that you can put it down and just put it down? In fact, it's not putting it down.
